Living Stories
Every Hindi reader is familiar with, and loves the works of Munshi Premchand. You can read and re-read the stories and they never get old. His ideas of simplicity, brotherhood and familial bonds have always been, and will always be relevant.
He takes you to a whole new level of story reading where you experience the story 'happening' in front of yourself. The characters seem to come alive, and live their lives in front of you.
The stories are so close to reality and give a taste of how life ought to be lived. The beauty of his works lies in the fact that, they never fail to astonish you with their apt presentation of emotions and feelings, according to the situation that the characters are in. This is an important feature of munshiji's stories, you can always relate to them. You will always picture yourself around the plot, watching the characters live their life. The characters never seem fictitious, they seem one of our own.
For old school people like me, Premchand's works are a real treasure. He was one of his kind. And the best part is, his stories get their simplistic air from nowhere but him. He, who was a pure hearted, humble and simple man, but very well knew how to bind the readers to the story. Such was the talent of the man, and such was his humility, that it never gave way to vanity.
I remember reading an instance from his life in my schoolbooks, which goes by the name 'प्रेमचंद के फटे जूते', it pens down his simplicity in all it's glory. If anyone has ever read this piece of work, they will know what I'm talking about.
I feel lucky to have the honour of coming face to face with the characters of munshiji's stories by means of his writings which continue to amaze and stun the readers with their ingenuity.
Which one of Munshi Premchand's works have you read, and which one is your favourite, do share in the comments.
