The Value Of Things

One sees, uses or not uses, desires and obtains various things in one's life. For each of us, certain commodities are special or customized, while certain things are common for all. Things are expensive and things are inexpensive. Some things are affordable, others are unaffordable. The price of things rises and it falls in accordance with the nation's economy. 

There are commodities like gold, diamond, petrol, etc. which are considered to be forever valuable. But is it really so? Last few months have shattered all the set criterion and patterns, and the same has happened with one commodity that is so expensive, it is often called the 'liquid gold' and that is petrol. 

It was a historic moment in April 2020, when the oil prices in the USA were at a negative mark, owing to the nationwide lockdown due to covid. 

Now that is plain surprise. Oil or petrol is a precious commodity and its price rise has been a matter of concern as well as controversy almost all over the world. And suddenly, its prices went down to negative, the reason behind it was the non use of vehicles for months as people were staying home, which led to a crisis for storage of oil. 

So, what does it mean? Even an extremely valuable and expensive commodity like petrol couldn't escape a descent in its value, so it won't be an overstatement if I say that one could not assign a definite value to anything, the value of things and commodities changes according to circumstances. We all are aware of the demand and supply equation of commodities, but who thought that an ever in demand commodity like petrol could go out of demand.

So, it seems that the value of anything or anyone couldn't be defined or  decided definitively. There could be so many unpredictable and unexpected events that may bring drastic changes in the so called 'value' of anyone or anything.

One must remember this in one's life as well, that there is no definite value, and permanence is just an illusion. So, stay humble, keep working for what's right. That's all you can do.
