The Immortality Of Touching Lives
We all have had people in our lives who were or are, very dear to us. The people who have unconditional love and concern for us. And then there are people who are adored not just by their loved ones, family and friends, but also by every person who ever came in contact with them.
These are the people who have touched lives, who have influenced those around them. I'm sure we all relate to it, and have been around such a person once in our lifetime.
Me, my siblings and cousins have been fortunate enough to have my 'nana' around for all our childhood and in our growing years. He was a gem of a person, a warm hearted, generous man. A man of his word, a life well lived. He was a grandfather anyone would be lucky to have.
He was a medical professional(not a doctor), and his professional skills were unmatched, we grew up seeing him respected for his excellence and genius in his field. He was well regarded for his apt diagnosis and dexterity at his work.
Nana came from a middle class family, and spent his life in a small town, but, his wisdom and values were admirable and commendable. He was an example of how life ought to be lived, with enthusiasm, zest, kindness and compassion. For us, he was the witness of our achievements, small or big, always motivating us in our endeavours, and most importantly, believing in us no matter what.
I remember him proudly describing our endeavors to others, no matter how small they may be. He took pride in whatever we did.
He was way ahead of his time and always gave great importance to education. His knowledge of indigenous medicines was unmatched and people flooded his place for advice about it.
As I write this article today, I know he would be so proud of it, telling everyone about it.
Whoever knew him, knew that he was a golden hearted gentleman, true and genuine. Anyone could be excellent at their work or well known, but being genuine is what makes one stand apart.
We lost him two years ago, on this day, but his values and wisdom are, and will always be with us. Probably this is how people become immortal, by being genuine and by touching lives.
Tell us about the person who touched your life.
